The Steelers Have Released Veteran Kicker Shaun Suisham

The Steelers have parted ways with their longtime kicker Shaun Suisham.

Pittsburgh announced this morning that it has released the veteran kicker, citing a failed physical as the designation for his release.

Suisham, a 34-year-old kicker out of Bowling Green, had been with the team since 2010. He began his career with Pittsburgh in 2005 and played for three other teams before rejoining the Steelers.

From the Steelers:

“Unfortunately Shaun incurred a setback in his recovery from knee surgery that won’t allow him to compete in a timely manner,” said Steelers General Manager Kevin Colbert. “Shaun has played a significant role in our success during his time in Pittsburgh. He has been the consummate professional on the field and in our community. We wish he and his family all the best in the future."

Suisham missed the entire 2105 season with a torn ACL.

Pittsburgh went with Chris Boswell at kicker last season, who did a very nice job filling in for Suisham.

The Steelers open their 2016 season Sept. 12 against Washington on ESPN's Monday Night Football.
