NFL insider Mike Florio revealed on Saturday that no one knows how the Jimmy Garoppolo situation is going to play out. That probably means even the 49ers are unsure of what to do at this point.
Garoppolo is in contract with San Francisco for one more year. He's also not currently healthy after undergoing surgery earlier this offseason. Oh, and most quarterback-needy teams have found a quarterback.
The Niners are in trouble.
Florio's update has the NFL world talking about the Jimmy Garoppolo situation.
Some believe the 49ers will just have to release him.
"They're gonna end up having to release him. The other teams will call the 9ers bluff. Same situation as Baker with the Browns," one fan tweeted.
Others think San Francisco's front office would be better off waiting to make a decision until Garoppolo's healthy.
"Wait til he’s healthy. When healthy and a trade doesn’t happen, Jimmy gets cut. Unless lance looks horrific in otas and camp, it’d be ludicrous to keep jimmy on the roster after he’s healthy," a fan said.
It's also worth pointing out the 49ers reportedly had an offer of two second-round picks for the veteran quarterback. It's clear that offer is no longer on the table.
The 49ers are clearly in trouble here as there's no end in sight. They might be best off cutting Jimmy Garoppolo if they can't find a trade partner.
It's going to be a long and interesting offseason in the Bay Area.
