A trade for one of the best players in the NBA has reportedly "been in the works for years." According to Chris Sheridan, the Los Angeles Lakers have reportedly been working on a trade for New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis for years.

Since Davis entered the league in 2012, he's a five-time All-Star, three-time All-NBA player and was named to the NBA All-Defensive team in 2018. It's safe to say he's one of the best players in the league and arguably the player you most want to build a team around.

The Lakers landed LeBron James in free agency before the 2018 season and appear to be in play for yet another NBA star.

Davis has two years left on his contract with the Pelicans - with a player option to leave the team after the 2019-20 season.

Will the Lakers trade for Anthony Davis this season? If the Lakers don't land Davis via trade this year, it's safe to say Magic Johnson will make a run at the NBA star in 2020.

Stay tuned.
