USC, a program that prides itself on competing for national championships, finished with a 5-7 record last year. It won't shock you to hear that the team's coach - Clay Helton - will be fighting to keep his job this coming season.

Helton, in fact, has the hottest seat in the country, per Athlon Sports. The publication unveiled its list earlier in the week.

Gus Malzahn, Auburn's head coach, also makes an appearance in the top five. The Tigers will have to have a great season if he's to stick around.

Here's what Athlon had to say about Helton:

Losing records are rare at USC. Considering the Trojans have just two losing records since 1992, it’s easy to see why Helton is squarely on the hot seat in 2019.

It's hard to argue. And if Helton's seat wasn't hot enough already, the rumors about Urban Meyer waiting in the wings could make it scalding.

The biggest issue for Helton? Winning a few more games this year - something like an 8-4 record - would not be enough. USC is expected to contend every year.

It'll be interesting to see if Helton is able to put together the miracle campaign he needs to keep his job.
