It’s been a long time since there was this much hype surrounding a Cleveland Browns team heading into the season.
The Browns, following a promising rookie season by Baker Mayfield and a big offseason that included a trade for star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., enter the 2019 NFL regular season as potential Super Bowl contenders.
Mayfield is quite aware of the hype surrounding his team.
The former No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft understands that because of it, there will be plenty of people rooting for his team to lose.
“It stays within that locker room,” Mayfield said. “You’ve got to believe in it and take it one week at a time. Because I wouldn’t say that everybody wants to beat us. I think in the media and everything that comes with the hype around our team right now, people want to see us lose, just because the hype is so real. But we’ve got to go out there and take it one week at a time. We’re trying to win every week.”
Cleveland opens the 2019 regular season with a couple of winnable games, hosting Tennessee in Week 1 and traveling to New York to take on the Jets in Week 2.
We get a Browns-Rams Sunday night football matchup in Week 3, though, and that’s win the hype will truly arrive.
