Cam Newton reportedly made a prediction for where Tom Brady will play in 2020. He reportedly sees the free agent quarterback heading West.
Former San Diego Chargers star Shawne Merriman revealed in an interview with TMZ Sports that Newton apparently made a prediction for Brady at the Super Bowl. He sees the six-time Super Bowl champion playing for someone other than the Patriots.
Brady, 42, is set to hit free agency next month. The Patriots are reportedly willing to let Brady hit the open market.
Merriman told TMZ Sports that Newton thinks Brady will come to Los Angeles.
“He thinks that Tom is going to come to the Chargers,” Merriman told TMZ.
Merriman, meanwhile, is not convinced that Brady is a good fit for the Chargers, who have to replace Philip Rivers. The AFC West franchise announced on Tuesday that Rivers will not be back in 2020.
“Tom’s a great quarterback, he’s just not a great quarterback for the Los Angeles Chargers,” Merriman said. “I think if you’re going to move from a different direction from Phillip, you go in and get somebody that could do a little bit more — a little more athletic.”
Merriman thinks that Newton could actually be the right man for the job.
“I just brought up one name, I think Cam Newton is a — could be a really good choice. Even for the short term. And, you can still go draft.”
Newton’s future in Carolina has yet to be decided. The Panthers’ owner said on Tuesday that Newton first needs to get 100 percent healthy. Then, the franchise will make a decision.
