On Friday afternoon, the landscape of the NBA changed in a matter of minutes.
The Los Angeles Clippers acquired two NBA stars in a stunning turn of events in the wee hours of Friday night/Saturday morning.
Los Angeles landed the top free agent on the board in Kawhi Leonard and traded for Oklahoma City star Paul George to create a dynamic duo.
After choosing the Clippers over the Lakers, some wondered why Kawhi made the decision he did. The Clippers landing Paul George was obviously the major part of his decision, but there might have been something else at play as well.
According to Cris Carter, Magic Johnson played a part in the Lakers losing Kawhi.
“All the information that leaked from Magic’s conversations with Kawhi team didn’t help the Lakers case,” Carter reported.

It’s difficult to predict what would have happened if the Clippers didn’t land Paul George.
However, it seems the Lakers were the primary landing spot for Kawhi if their rivals didn’t land PG. According to a report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Leonard “prepared” to sign with the Lakers before the Clippers trade.
NBA free agency kicked off less than a week ago and the league has already changed significantly.
