Earlier this week, UFC President Dana White was asked when Conor McGregor will return to the Octagon for his next fight.

For UFC fans wanting to see McGregor back in the cage, the wait won't take much longer.

According to TMZ Sports, White suggested McGregor will fight sometime "early next year." As for a potential opponent, White ruled out Khabib Nurmagomedov - at least to start.

White said McGregor needs to fight someone else first before stepping up to challenge for the lightweight title again. "That's possible too down the road. I think Conor would fight somebody else before that," White said about McGregor's next opponent.

TMZ mentioned Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz as potential opponents. The two will battle it out at UFC 244 on November 2 and the winner could face McGregor in 2020.

As what's next for Khabib, White suggested Tony Feguson or Georges St-Pierre.

"Tony Ferguson is the fight that needs to happen," White said. "We've tried to do it 4 other times so hopefully, we can do it this time. But, that's the fight that makes sense...So, we'll see what happens with Tony. Ya know Tony's had opportunities before that he didn't take, so if he doesn't, I'd be interested in talking about GSP."

We'll have to wait and see if White makes a formal announcement after UFC 244.
