The wife of Boston Red Sox legend David Ortiz has released a new update on the health status of her husband, who has been updated to "good" after suffering a gunshot wound.
Ortiz, 43, was shot in his native Dominican Republic just over a week ago.
Here's the statement from his wife.
"This morning, David's condition was upgraded to 'good' by his doctors and he continues to make progress with his recovery in the Intensive Care Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital," Tiffany Ortiz said in a statement.
"We remain grateful to everyone who has helped David through this ordeal, both in the Dominican Republic and here in Boston. David's journey to good health has been bolstered by the many expressions of love that have come to us from across the globe. Your support has lifted his spirits tremendously during this challenging time."
Police discovered that Ortiz's shooting was an assassination attempt - after first being categorized as a burglary gone wrong.
According to a report, men were just under $8,000 USD to take out Ortiz at a bar/restaurant in Santo Domingo. On Tuesday, a report identified Alberto Miguel Rodriguez Mota as the man who paid the hitmen to kill Ortiz.
New details of the case are expected to be released at a press conference scheduled for Wednesday.
