Derek Carr is staying with the Las Vegas Raiders, and he didn't want it any other way.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the quarterback signed a three-year, $121.5 million contract extension that keeps him in Vegas through the 2025 season. The 31-year-old won't hit the open market next offseason, a possibility that never intrigued him.

Per The Athletic's Vic Tafur, Carr said he told his agent his two options were playing with the Raiders or leaving football.

Some fans expressed admiration for his loyalty to the Raiders, where he's started 127 of 129 games since getting selected in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Another fan questioned if Carr still has time to change his mind.

Carr's agent likely kept those intentions confidential, as it certainly wouldn't have helped negotiations knowing the quarterback would only play for one organization.

Following eight seasons, Carr is the franchise leader in passing yards (31,700) and touchdowns (193). Although he's yet to win a playoff game, he steered them to an expected postseason appearance with a career-high 4,804 passing yards in 2021.

Having firmly established himself as the Raiders' fixture under center, Carr will vie for his first AFC West title with help from the newly acquired Davante Adams.

Now that he's under contract for four more years, Carr has a while before deciding whether he would truly walk away rather than wear any other NFL uniform.
