Details have emerged regarding the status of Zion Williamson and his potential availability for the NBA Playoffs.

Williamson has been ramping up his basketball activity as he continues his recovery. It was initially believed he could return by the postseason. However, it appears the Pelicans are taking a longterm approach.

NBA insider Shams Charnia said on Tuesday that Williamson particpated in a five-on-five, full-court scrimmage last week. But that doesn't necessarily mean he's going to be good to go for the play-in tournament.

The NBA insider added that he doesn't expect to see Williamson in the play-in our playoffs, if the Pelicans advance as far.

"Zion Williamson did participate in a five-on-five, full-court scrimmage last week from what I've been told," he said. "But it's still important for him to keep getting those five-on-five reps in. Conditioning is important. And just this little window, after not playing all season, I don't expect Zion Williamson during this play-in or playoffs."

It's worth questioning why the Pelicans are getting Zion Williamson back into basketball shape right now if he's not even going to return for the playoffs. Why not wait until the offseason and give him a bit more time to get healthy?

Hopefully this is all a smokescreen and Williamson suits up for the Pelicans in the play-in tournament. It doesn't sound like it, though.

The Pelicans take on the Spurs in the play-in tournament on Wednesday night.
