Dick Vitale Has Message For People Telling Zion Williamson To Sit Out

Dick Vitale dances with Louisville cheerleader.

From the very moment Zion Williamson went down with an injury people were vouching for him to sit out the remainder of the season. With the Duke star most likely to become the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft, risking further injury could hurt his career, both physically and financially.

It didn't take long for Williamson to cement his status as the top prospect in college basketball. His athleticism and potential match LeBron James in certain categories.

While the Blue Devils still wait for the official status of their playmaker and his recovery timetable, the outside noise of him shutting down until the draft grows louder. However, ESPN broadcaster Dick Vitale is clearly against that notion.

Vitale prefers that athletes never leave their team until the season is actually over. This is a complaint that is heard constantly during bowl games in college football.

Well, he stated his case in an emphatic rant on Twitter, and he obviously prefers to see Williamson back on the court if healthy.

Here is the thread of tweets that Vitale posted today:

Although Vitale did make a compelling argument for returning to the team, Williamson could have too much to lose.

If this knee injury is truly minor and only keeps him out for a few weeks, then perhaps sitting out the season is an odd choice. Yet, it's hard to fault the freshman phenom for whatever decision he makes, especially when he is on the cusp of earning millions of dollars.
