Doug Pederson and the Jacksonville Jaguars are officially on the clock. They'll select first overall when the 2022 NFL Draft commences next Thursday night.

Having the first overall pick in a draft has its obvious advantages. However, it also garners added pressure for those in charge of making the pick. That responsibility belongs to Pederson and Trent Baalke.

They'll have their pick of the litter. Premier edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson will be available. So will top offensive tackles like Evan Neal and Ikem Ikwonu.

The bottom line is the first overall pick is a luxury that can't be wasted. Pederson is well aware he better get it right.

"You better be right," Pederson said, via Jaguars.com. "That person is going to come in and start. That's why you pick him first overall."

Believe it or not, the Jaguars still aren't sure who will be the pick at No. 1. It could be a smokescreen, but Baalke recently admitted as much.

"The pick doesn't have to be made today, so there's no sense in forcing it right now," Baalke said. "We still have several meetings to go through, a lot of discussion between the coaching staff and the personnel staff. We're continuing to dig up and do research on these guys.

"We've got plenty of time. We're ahead of last year's schedule in terms of preparation. We've worked hard to get there. The decision doesn't have to be made right now, so why make it?"

The first round of the 2022 NFL Draft commences next Thursday night.
