A Philadelphia Eagles player has come to the defense of his former quarterback, Nick Foles, in the wake of some social media criticism.
The Chicago Bears traded for Foles earlier this offseason. Foles, who spent the 2019 season in Jacksonville, is expected to compete for the starting job with Mitch Trubisky.
Some within the NFL have criticized the Bears for “choosing” Foles over Cam Newton, who was released by the Panthers on Tuesday. Essentially, Chicago could have just signed Newton instead of trading assets for Foles.
“Imagine picking Nick Foles and his contract over Cam Newton,” former NFL offensive lineman T.J. Lang tweeted on Tuesday. The tweet has been retweeted more than 1,000 times and liked nearly 10,000 times.

Philadelphia Eagles defensive back Jalen Mills decided to respond to this tweet.
“Nick Foles won a Super Bowl,” he wrote. His tweet has been retweeted more than 6,000 times and liked nearly 70,000 (!) times.

That is true.
And while it’s fair for Bears fans to criticize – or just question – the Foles move, there are also serious concerns about Newton’s health status. It’s certainly not as simple as “picking” one 100 percent healthy quarterback over another in this situation.
