The NFL’s quarterback carousel could be pretty wild this offseason. Several notable QBs are set to hit the open market. Others could be traded.
Tom Brady, Philip Rivers, Drew Brees, Cam Newton and Andy Dalton, among others, are some of quarterbacks whose future with their current team is up in the air. Some of them are set to hit free agency, some of them could retire, some of them could be traded.
ESPN’s NFL writers have named six quarterbacks that are in need of a change of scenery ahead of the 2020 regular season.
Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is arguably the biggest name on the list. The former MVP quarterback could be moved.

ESPN believes that Newton is in need of a fresh start somewhere else. It put Newton on their list of 32 players in need of a fresh start.
“The Panthers are in a rebuilding mode. Unless they are willing to commit to Newton past the final year of his contract this season, it makes sense to start over with a new quarterback, as the team did in 2011 when making Newton the first pick of the draft,” ESPN writes.
Newton is not the only notable NFL quarterback on the list. Here are the six quarterbacks named by ESPN:
- Panthers QB Cam Newton
- Bengals QB Andy Dalton
- Jaguars QB Nick Foles
- Titans QB Marcus Mariota
- Raiders QB Derek Carr
- Chargers QB Philip Rivers
Rivers is the only name on that list who definitely will be on another team in 2020. The Chargers announced on Tuesday that they are officially parting ways with the longtime franchise quarterback. It’s possible Rivers will ultimately decide to retire, though he reportedly wants to keep playing.
