Kawhi Leonard is set to hit free agency on June 30 and, while the Toronto Raptors surely have a strong chance to keep him following their NBA championship, there are many who believe he'll end up in California.
The NBA Finals MVP is a Southern California native and many within the NBA believe he wants to end up back home.
The Los Angeles Clippers have been mentioned the most for Leonard, with ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski suggesting that they're the favorite, though L.A.'s other team might be emerging as a frontrunner.
ESPN analyst Damon Jones suggested on Get Up! this morning that the Lakers are strongly in play for Leonard, if they can open up a third max contract slot.
“Now it’s a lot of things that have to happen. The Lakers need to clear the cap space although Kawhi Leonard right now is still contemplating if he is going to go back to Toronto and if he does that, it would be on a shorter deal," Jones said.
Jones has some history with LeBron James, so his sources here could be pretty close to the Lakers organization.
Kemba Walker and Kyrie Irving are the other two star free agents expected to be pursued by Los Angeles this summer.
