The 2018 NBA offseason saw LeBron James leave the Cleveland Cavaliers for the Los Angeles Lakers and Kawhi Leonard get shipped from San Antonio to Toronto for DeMar DeRozan. Don't expect the 2019 offseason to deliver any less.
Several NBA stars will become free agents following the 2018-19 season. Kawhi Leonard, Klay Thompson, Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, Jimmy Butler, and others will be vying for new contracts after the upcoming season.
In a recent piece, ESPN predicted where the best free agents will take their talents next year. The Worldwide Leader predicted that two of those stars will team up together.
ESPN's panel thinks Jimmy Butler and Kyrie Irving will take their talents to the Big Apple. Here's what ESPN had to say about the pairing.
Reports swirled earlier this summer that Irving was aiming to team up with Butler, potentially in New York, where the Knicks should have the space to add a max player...
As with Irving, our panel sees New York as Butler's most likely destination, though it's difficult to see at this moment how the Knicks would create the cap space for both of them (not to mention the chance Durant chooses New York too).
A teaming up of Irving and Butler would certainly make waves in the Eastern Conference - especially if Kristaps Porzingis can come back from his ACL injury.
