The status of the 2020 college football season is currently in doubt.
We’re about five months away from kickoff in Week 1 of the 2020 season, but thanks to the coronavirus, no one knows if it’ll happen or not. Sports across the globe have been put on hold as the world attempts to fight off this dreadful virus.
ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit said earlier this week that he’s skeptical of the 2020 season happening.
“I’ll be shocked if we have NFL football this fall,” Herbstreit said, via TMZ Sports. “If we have college football, I’ll be so surprised if that happens.”
No one really knows what’s going to happen in September, though. A lot can happen over the next five months. Just think about how different everything was a month ago.
If we do have a 2020 season, perhaps it’ll start at a different time. Rumors surfaced earlier this week about a potential season beginning in July (which seems doubtful, too).
Whenever the next season comes, here are some of the top teams in the country, according to ESPN’s latest preseason top 25 poll:
- Ohio State
- Penn State
- Notre Dame
- Texas A&M
- Oklahoma State

And, again, hopefully we get a 2020 college football season. Sports can’t come back soon enough.
