The New England Patriots and the New York Jets played a football game on Monday night.
New England defeated New York, 30-27, on ESPN’s Monday Night Football. The Patriots won the game thanks to a game-winning field goal by Nick Folk as time expired. New England improved to 3-5 on the season, while New York stayed winless at 0-9.
For most of the game, it looked like neither team was interested in winning the game. The Patriots trailed the winless Jets for most of the contest. Many people were joking on social media that New England was trying to lose on purpose to take New York out of the pole position for Trevor Lawrence.
Then, towards the end of the game, it looked like the Jets were trying to lose on purpose so they’d stay in position to land the Clemson Tigers quarterback.

Lawrence has yet to officially declare for the 2021 NFL Draft, but he’s widely expected to leave school early.
“My mindset is the same and I really don’t want to talk about it anymore, honestly,” Lawrence said of his current NFL Draft mindset. “I’m just trying to enjoy my last few months here if that’s what it’s going to be. Whatever I decide to do, you guys will know in January or February. I’m not trying to make a stir. I don’t want any more people talking about me than they already are. My thing is I’m not going to corner myself. I’m leaving the door open for all my options. That’s really all I’m going to say about it.”
Thanks to Monday night’s loss, the Jets remain in prime position to select Lawrence at No. 1 overall if he does come out. But New York has some growing competition, most notably in Jacksonville.
