A former NFL agent has revealed his prediction for the specific contract that Dak Prescott is seeking with the Dallas Cowboys.
Prescott is coming off his rookie deal in Dallas. Based on his production, Prescott was extremely underpaid during his first four seasons in the league. The former Mississippi State star made a couple of million dollars - total - in his first four years.
Now, Prescott is looking for a raise - a big one. The free agent quarterback wants to be one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL.
What kind of contract should Prescott ultimately land? CBS Sports' Joel Corry made his prediction earlier this week. It's a big number.
Contract Package: $150 Million/4 Years ($37.5 Million Per Year)
Overall Guarantees: $120 Million
That is quite a bit of money for Prescott, but based on what other young quarterbacks have gotten, it's not crazy. The market set by Jared Goff and Carson Wentz suggests that Prescott is worth $35 million-plus annually.
"Prescott becoming the NFL's highest paid player wouldn't be surprising. Being in the best quarterback discussion isn't a prerequisite for becoming the highest paid player. Since 2017, Derek Carr (Raiders), Matthew Stafford (Lions), Jimmy Garoppolo (49ers) and Kirk Cousins (Vikings) became the highest paid player when signing their respective contracts," CBS Sports writes.
It's far from a guarantee that it'll happen, though. The Cowboys could ultimately decide to place the franchise tag on Prescott for the 2020 season and come back to the negotiating table in 2021.
Prescott isn't the only notable Cowboys player looking to get paid, either. Both wide receiver Amari Cooper and defensive back Byron Jones are in need of new deals, too.
It could be an expensive offseason in Dallas.
