At one time, Mac Jones and Tua Tagovailoa were teammates at the University of Alabama. Now, they're division-rival quarterbacks in the NFL.
Given their similarities in age and hype coming out of college, many fans and analysts debate over which former Crimson Tide signal caller will have a better professional career.
On Wednesday, former Dolphins executive Mike Tannenbaum said the Patriots are better off than Miami with Mac Jones as their starting quarterback.
“I’ve never been in on Tua and that’s why I think the Patriots are better than the Dolphins. They have the best Alabama QB in the division,” Tannenbaum said.
Tua, the No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 draft, experienced an up-and-down ride through his first two seasons with the Dolphins. That being said, his offensive arsenal just got a whole lot more interesting with the acquisition of All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill earlier this offseason.
Jones, the No. 15 overall pick in the 2021 draft, had some pretty consistent success in his rookie season under Bill Belichick. It remains to be seen whether or not he can maintain an upward trajectory heading into Year 2.
Jones and the Patriots fell to Tua and the Dolphins in both meetings this past season -- losing their season-opener 17-16 and their regular-season finale 33-24.
