The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Trevor Lawrence with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. At some point, Lawrence will take over starting quarterback duties in Jacksonville.
Gardner Minshew is hoping to push that back as far as possible, though.
The Jaguars quarterback had a brutally honest comment while discussing Lawrence and the quarterback situation during an appearance on Chris Long’s podcast.
“In preparation for the competition, I haven’t taken a s–t in weeks. No. 2 isn’t an option for me,” Minshew told Long on his Green Light with Chris Long podcast.

That’s a pretty great way to phrase it from the former Washington State quarterback.
Minshew, 25, balled out as a rookie in Jacksonville in 2019. He threw for 21 touchdowns and six interceptions in 12 games as the team’s starting quarterback in his first season.
The young quarterback played pretty well in Year 2, throwing for 2,259 yards, 16 touchdowns and five interceptions in nine games in 2020.
Lawrence is clearly the future of the position in Jacksonville, but Minshew will clearly push him as hard as possible in competition this summer.
Jacksonville is scheduled to open the 2021 regular season on Sunday, Sept. 12 against the Houston Texans.
