Coming off a win at The Players just last month, Cameron Smith is one of the hottest players on tour.

Now through 16 holes in today's opening round, the 28-year-old Aussie has carried that momentum over in a big way at the 2022 Masters.

After starting the day with a double-bogey at No. 1, Smith now has eight birdies to bring his score to a field-leading 6-under. He currently leads Sungjae Im by two strokes.

The golf world took to Twitter to react to Smith's impressive Round 1 performance.

"Cam Smith is -8 for his last 12 holes!!! Playing majestic golf! @TheMasters," one fan wrote.

"Cam Smith opened his Tournament with double bogey. The last player to lead/co-lead after round 1 of #TheMasters despite making a double or worse that day was Dennis Paulson in 2000," another added.

If Smith is able to keep this elite play up throughout the week, it's hard to imagine anyone catching up.
