A former NFL head coach turned ESPN analyst turned college football coach says he's "heard" where Cam Newton is signing.

Newton, a former No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick, was released by the Carolina Panthers earlier this week. Carolina has officially chosen to move on from the former Auburn Tigers quarterback.

The 30-year-old quarterback is currently without an NFL team. Newton has been linked to a couple of different franchises, but nothing has been made official - yet, anyway.

One former NFL head coach said this week that he's "heard" where Newton is signing. That coach: Arizona State's Herm Edwards.

Bolts From The Blue had more on Edwards' comment:

One of my colleagues here at SB Nation is an alumni of Arizona State University. He still has friends from college that currently work within the ASU media and they were recently in attendance for head football coach Herm Edwards’ weekly press conference that he is now hosting on the video platform Zoom. During the call, apparently the topic of Cam Newton/Chargers came up and Edwards said he “heard” Newton was signing with the Chargers.

Does Edwards actually know something or was he just mentioning a team that Newton has been linked to a lot?

The Chargers have a quarterback in Tyrod Taylor, but Los Angeles could be an ideal fit for Newton.

We'll find out if Edwards actually knew something or not soon.
