In a stunning - but perhaps not surprising - move on Friday, the Patriots released wide receiver Antonio Brown. The move comes on the heels of allegations of sexual assault which have been the sole focus of the team's media attention for days.

Taking to his social media platforms on Friday, Antonio Brown reacted by appearing to take the cut in stride.

He thanked Tom Brady, Bill Belichick, and the rest of Patriots for the opportunity to play, and wished them the best of luck moving forward.

Brown started posting his thank yous on social media before the news broke.

The decision to cut Brown may have been inevitable when all is said and done. He allegedly sent "menacing" text messages to one of his latest assault accusers.

That may have been the most serious thing Brown allegedly did during his time with the Patriots, but it was far from the only thing.

Factor in the craziness he got into when he was with the Oakland Raiders and the Patriots appear to have decided that they didn't want to deal with the headaches anymore.

Brown is now a free agent for the second time in less than two weeks. We'll have to see if any other teams decide to give him a shot, either this weekend or in the weeks and months to come.
