Earlier: The Detroit Lions are hosting the New York Jets on Monday Night Football. One of the Lions' top players just left the game with an injury. Star cornerback Darius Slay was injured midway through the first quarter.

It looked like Slay may have taken a hit to the head during a play. He stayed on the ground for a while before thankfully walking off under his own power.

Slay went into the locker room, again under his own power.

He was replaced on the field by Teez Tabor.

Slay has been with the Lions since 2013. He was a Pro Bowler and first-team All-Pro selection last year. Losing him would be a major blow for the Lions, but hopefully Slay is fine physically.

We will update you on Slay's status when more details come out. Stay tuned.

You can watch the Lions and Jets on ESPN. The score is tied at 7 after Jets running back Isaiah Crowell just punched in a short touchdown on the ground.

Detroit took a 7-0 lead on the first play of the game, when Quandre Diggs intercepted Jets rookie Sam Darnold and returned the pick 37 yards for six points.

Update: Slay was cleared for a concussion and is back in the game.
