A first round pick from the 2018 NBA draft suffered an unfortunate injury earlier this week. Philadelphia 76ers guard Zhaire Smith suffered a foot injury.

Smith was participating in Tim Grgurich's development camp in Las Vegas when he injured the foot on Monday. The 76ers announced Smith will return to Philadelphia to be further evaluated.

Although Philadelphia didn't announce the specific injury, NBA insider Shams Charania revealed the nature of the foot injury. According to Shams, Smith suffered a Jones fracture in his foot.

Charania reported that the injury will require surgery.

It's the latest in a long line of injuries to Philadelphia rookies. Both Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons suffered injuries that cost them their rookie seasons.

Smith's stock rose considerably during the NCAA Tournament and during the draft process. He was traded on draft night from the Phoenix Suns to the 76ers in exchange for No. 10 overall pick Mikal Bridges and a 2021 first-round pick.

Stay tuned for an injury update.
