Things got heated in the postgame handshake line following this afternoon’s Iowa vs. Illinois Big Ten conference game.
Illinois assistant coach Ron Coleman appeared to take issue with Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery following the contest. The Hawkeyes beat the Illini, 72-65, to improve to 16-6 on the season.
Coleman was likely upset with an end-of-game dunk by Iowa while the game was already in hand. Iowa was up by eight points with about 10 seconds left when the Hawkeyes dunked the ball on a breakaway play.
The Illini did not seem to like it.

That was intense.

Illinois was starting to pressure the ball in the backcourt, so you can’t really blame Iowa for heaving the ball downcourt. Maybe the dunk didn’t need to happen, but it’s not crazy in that situation.
These two teams will meet again at the end of the regular season. Iowa will travel to Illinois on March 8 at 7 p.m. E.T.
That should be a fun one.
