Update: The Jeff Fisher-to-the-XFL dream is being put on hold, at least for now. Charlotte Wilder says she spoke to the longtime NFL head coach, who said he hasn't accepted a job.
Earlier: Longtime NFL head coach Jeff Fisher has been out of work for two seasons, though the 61-year-old coach is reportedly in line for a new job.
Fisher, who led the Rams from 2012-16, is reportedly in line to coach in the NFL.
CBS Sports NFL insider Jason La Canfora reports that Fisher will be landing the XFL head coaching job for the Houston franchise.
Fisher, a California native, was an NFL head coach for more than two decades. He coached the Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans from 1995-2010, leading the franchise to six postseason appearances, including the Super Bowl in 1999.
The head coach then led the St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams from 2012-16. He failed to reach the postseason all five years, going 31-45-1 over the course of those five seasons.
The XFL will have several big names in the coaching ranks, as Fisher will be joined by former Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops, among others.
An official announcement on Fisher's hiring could come soon.
