The New York Yankees have reportedly made one of the biggest moves of the trade deadline.
According to multiple reports, the Yankees have traded for star slugger Joey Gallo. The Texas Rangers outfielder was scratched from tonight’s lineup minutes before first pitch.
Moments later, the trade news broke.
Gallo, who’s hit 25 home runs and driven in 55 runs this season, is being traded to the American League East contenders. Levi Weaver of The Athletic first reported the trade.

ESPN MLB insider Jeff Passan has since confirmed the big trade news.
“The New York Yankees are finalizing a deal to acquire outfielder Joey Gallo from the Texas Rangers, sources tell ESPN. The deal is pending medical review,” he reports.

It’s unclear at this moment what the Rangers will be getting in return. Gallo was one of the top available hitters on the market, so the Yankees will likely have to send a top prospect or two back to the Rangers.
The Yankees are 52-47 on the season, 8.5 games out in the division. New York is currently three games out of the Wild Card.
