The biggest story in the sports world right now is John Beilein’s departure from the University of Michigan. After 12 great years with the Wolverines, the 66-year-old head coach is heading to the NBA.
Beilein received a five-year deal from the Cleveland Cavaliers to become their coach. It’ll present quite the challenge for him, but the opportunity to coach at the next level was clearly too good to pass up.
According to ESPN, Beilein had some frustration with the current nature of college basketball. With freshmen leaving the NCAA every year, the idea of retaining a championship-caliber roster is too difficult.
Despite frustration with that part of the job, Beilein has an incredible connection to the Michigan community. His heartfelt message on Twitter really showed his love for the program and its supporters.
“It has been a heck of a ride and I hope you enjoyed our teams and staff as much as I did! Go Blue Forever,” Beilein wrote.
Here is his full message to the Wolverines:
Thanks to everyone at the Univ of Michigan for their incredible support these last 12 years. Our fans , alums , leaders, players and students are AMAZING It has been a heck of a ride and I hope you enjoyed our teams and staff as much as I did !Go Blue Forever ! #GoBlue

There is no telling where Michigan will go from here as it tries to keep its basketball program at a contending level.
As for Beilein, it’ll be interesting to see how he handles his first year in the NBA.
