Former Texas A&M star and NFL quarterback Johnny Manziel is reportedly interesting in playing for Houston’s XFL team.
According to a report from John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, Manziel has expressed interest in reuniting with his former coach, June Jones.
Manziel briefly played for Jones last season with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats before being traded to Montreal when he failed to beat out starter Jeremiah Masoli.
Now Manziel has turned his eyes to the XFL.
From the report:
“I enjoyed every single day I had with coach Jones,” Manziel said Saturday at TriStar’s Show at Reliant Arena. “Being in his offense was the best part of each day. I know he’s going to be successful wherever he’s coaching.”
Manziel would like to play in Texas and pointed out what Houston means to him.
“It’s a stone’s throw from College Station,” he said. “A lot of Aggies drove from Houston to College Station. Houston’s a great city that’ll always be near and dear to me.”
The XFL won’t kick off until February 2020, but it’s already holding tryouts for the new league.
If Manziel were to join, the XFL might find the success the Alliance of American Football didn’t.
Stay tuned for the latest.
