The 2018 NBA offseason kicked off with a bang Friday afternoon. Multiple reporters leaked the news that San Antonio Spurs star Kawhi Leonard wants to be traded.

Leonard missed most of the 2017-18 season with a quad injury. The former San Diego State star and the Spurs organization reportedly differed on how best to treat his injury, which led to the discord.

Earlier this week it was reported that the two sides were set to meet and come to an agreement going forward. Obviously that isn't likely to happen now.

So where does Leonard want to play? Well, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Leonard wants to go home - Los Angeles.

The 2014 NBA Finals MVP certainly didn't do the Spurs any favors by saying he wants a trade. With one year left on his deal the team who trades for Leonard will need to know he'll re-sign to a longterm deal.

A trade with the Los Angeles Lakers make sense for both franchises. The Lakers have several young players with the potential for stardom in Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram and Kyle Kuzma. It would likely take one or both of those players, plus a few other pieces to pry Kawhi out of San Antonio's hands.

The Lakers are expected to court LeBron James and Paul George in free agency, in addition to a potential trade for Kawhi Leonard.

Could the Lakers dethrone the Golden State Warriors in 2018-19? We'll just have to wait and see.
