To some NBA fans, Kevin Durant’s decision to join the Golden State Warriors in 2016 is all that is wrong with the league. They hated seeing a top player team up with a rival who had beaten him.
Two years later and Durant not only has no regrets after winning two championships, he also seems to love the NBA’s new age of player mobility.
Speaking at a Nike press conference in the Philippines this weekend, Durant was asked about the recent trend of players changing teams and moving around the league.
“I think it’s amazing that players are starting to take control of their careers, prioritizing winning is what basketball has always been all about,” Durant said. “That’s why we all started to play, to win and have some fun out there.
“It’s a great time to be a basketball player, not just in the NBA, but as a grassroots player. There’s so much energy around the game and it’s the best place it’s ever been in.”

The game of basketball is in a very strong place now, both nationally and internationally. Durant is correct about that.
There are going to be some fans who read or listen to these comments and fume about them, but Durant doesn’t seem to mind at all.
