On Wednesday afternoon, Kyrie Irving confirmed he’s heading into free agency by not opting into the final year of his deal with the Boston Celtics.
During the regular season, most reports linked Irving and Golden State Warriors star Kevin Durant to the New York Knicks.
However, after Durant’s injury during the NBA finals and Irving’s apparent change of heart, a new team emerged as the favorite. The Brooklyn Nets are now the odds-on favorite to land the star point guard.
As NBA teams attempt to figure out what Irving wants, he continues to post cryptic messages on his social media accounts.
On Wednesday, Irving took to Instagram with a video. Attached to the video was a quote from Mother Theresa.
Check it out.

People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered. Forgive them anyway. If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Be kind anyway. If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies. Succeed anyway. If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you. Be honest and sincere anyway. What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight. Create anyway. If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous. Be happy anyway. The good you do today, will often be forgotten. Do good anyway. Give the best you have, and it will never be enough. Give your best anyway. In the final analysis, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway. -Mother Teresa
What does it all mean?
We won’t jump to any conclusions regarding Kyrie’s thinking – that could be dangerous.
However, Brooklyn remains the clear favorite to land the star point guard. Several NBA insiders including ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski said Irving is very interested in playing for the Nets.
Reports from earlier in the offseason revealed Irving even spoke with former Cleveland Cavaliers teammate LeBron James about a possible reunion.
We’ll have to wait and see what Kyrie’s next move is.
