The Arkansas head coaching search is fully underway and several big names have been linked to the opening. One of those names: Lane Kiffin.
USA TODAY’s Dan Wolken reported on Sunday that Arkansas’ search team met with a candidate in Boca Raton, Florida over the weekend. Kiffin is someone who lives in Boca Raton, as he currently coaches at FAU.
Football Scoop is now reporting that Kiffin did indeed interview for the job.
The former Alabama offensive coordinator and Tennessee head coach reportedly had “significant” conversations with Arkansas.
Amid reports of athletic director Hunter Yurachek and his right hand man Jon Fagg have met with Lane Kiffin, we can confirm that Lane has had significant conversations with the Razorbacks brass about the job.
It’s unclear, though, if Kiffin would actually take the job.
However, a source close to Lane shares that despite how long the talks continue to go back and forth, it’s certainly not a lock that he takes the job. Complicating matters, as champs of the C-USA East, Lane and FAU play in the conference title game against UAB this upcoming Saturday.
Kiffin has strong ties to the SEC and he’s still a young man at 44 years old. He’ll probably land another major head coaching position at some point. However, it remains to be seen if it’ll be at Arkansas.
Having Lane back in the SEC – specifically the SEC West – would certainly be a lot of fun.
