From the moment the Lakers saw their postseason hopes slip away, the assumption was that LeBron James would take a cautious approach in the final weeks. With the regular season turning into a disaster for Los Angeles, it makes sense to avoid any further injuries.
While the presence of James is enough to sell tickets, he can’t avoid to re-aggravate his groin injury. This is exactly why the Lakers are playing him less minutes for each game.
Now that Los Angeles sits 7.5 games back of the eighth seed in the Western Conference, the team is allowing James to get even more rest. Although the team is on the road tonight in Detroit, the four-time MVP won’t be on the court.
According to NBA insider Shams Charania, James will sit against the Pistons due to load management.

It’s not too surprising to see him miss the second game of back-to-back days, especially after yesterday’s performance in Toronto.
This probably won’t be the last game that James sits out, which must be frustrating for fans attending the arena to watch him play.
Nonetheless, the Lakers at this point in the year aren’t playing for much. Considering that Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball are done for the season, it’s clear management will play it safe with James as well.
As for the Pistons, not facing one of the best players in the NBA could result in a much-needed win.
