Le'Veon Bell is two weeks into his holdout from the Pittsburgh Steelers' 2018 season. The star running back has yet to sign his franchise tag contract. He has not reported to the team this season.
Bell, a free agent in 2019, reportedly plans on holding out for as long as he feels necessary. The star running back doesn't want to rack up a ton of carries for a team that isn't going to pay him the kind of contract he wants.
The Jets are one of the teams being mentioned as a possible suitor for Bell in free agency. From NJ.com:
Bell would certainly seem like a good fit for the Jets. As of now, they have more cap room than any other team entering the offseason – and Christopher Johnson sounds ready to spend it, too. He mentioned last week that there will be some "interesting free agents" on the market and Bell may well lead that list. Right now, the Jets don't have a premier running back. Bell would fit the bill. Logic says they'll at least explore him as an option come the offseason, but that picture should get clearer as the winter rolls around.
So, Bell hasn't showed up to practice or a game. The Steelers, meanwhile, have started the season 0-1-1, tying the Browns and losing to the Chiefs.
What has Bell been doing during this holdout?
The star running back has been down in South Florida, apparently. TMZ Sports acquired a new video of Bell responding to a fan.
Bell was chillin' on a yacht on Monday -- living it up -- when he decided to take one of the jet skis out for a spin.
Another rider in the area started chattin' Bell up -- and the running back agreed to make a short video with the guy.
"You already know what it is man, we out here coolin' on the jet skis," Bell said.
At one point, the other jet skier says, "Give my man his f**kin money" -- to which Bell smiles and replies, "You already know! You already know!"
Bell, arguably the best running back in the NFL, could reportedly sit out until Week 10 of the 2018 season.
Bell has yet to provide any real updates on what his plans are for the rest of the season. As said earlier, some have suggested that he could sit out until Week 10 of the season, but it's unclear if that is actually going to happen.
The Steelers will attempt to get their first win of the 2018 season on Monday night. Pittsburgh is set to take on Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Buccaneers on ESPN's Monday Night Football. James Conner has been playing well in the absence of Bell, but the Steelers clearly miss their star running back and everything that he can do on the field.
