The Brooklyn Nets suffered a devastating blow to their playoff livelihoods Saturday night, going down 3-0 following a 109-103 loss to the Boston Celtics. It was a solemn evening at the Barclays Center, which made Ben Simmons' attire stand out even more.
Although yet to make his team debut, the 25-year-old drew attention for wearing a colorful outfit courtside.
Amid a sea of players and staffers sporting Brooklyn's black and white colors, Simmons donned bright orange pants with orange shades -- playoff basketball is still played indoors -- and a multi-colored jacket.
Twitter users had plenty of fun at the forward's expense, likening him to Willy Wonka, The Joker, and Skeeter from the old Nickelodeon cartoon, Doug.
On Friday, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Simmons plans to play in Game 4. Returning during an elimination game for a new team is a curious choice considering he hasn't suited up since last June. Simmons scored five points and passed up a wide-open layup during the Philadelphia 76ers' Game 7 loss to the Atlanta Hawks in the second round.
It's hard to see Simmons making a significant impact after such a long layaway. But if he has another outfit like Saturday's lined up for Monday night, all eyes will be on him either way.
