After almost a full season out of the league in 2018, Carmelo Anthony found a home in Portland. The future Hall of Famer rejuvenated his career with the Trailblazers, feeding off superstar Damian Lillard. But Melo, after averaging 14.3 points and 4.6 rebounds per game the past two years, is a Laker now.
On Tuesday, Anthony signed a one-year deal with Los Angeles to join forces with an old friend, LeBron James. LeBron and Melo were picks one and three, respectively, in the storied 2003 NBA Draft.
Lillard and Anthony have formed a close bond in Portland. So when Melo bid farewell to the Blazers via Instagram Tuesday, Dame had to mess with his now-former teammate.

“Portland, all I can say is thank you,” Carmelo wrote. ‘Thank you for letting me love the game of basketball again. Thank you for welcoming me into your community, and supporting me both on the court and in your city. These two years were some of the most important ones of my career, and for that I’ll always be grateful.”
Dame left a simple comment on Anthony’s heartfelt post: “Off the property Bruv.” Lillard’s quip has already racked up over 40,000 likes.
While Dame surely would’ve loved to keep Melo around, he’s obviously just ribbing the Lakers’ new addition. Expect Lillard and Anthony to hug it out when Portland takes on LA in 2021.
