New York Mets infielder Luis Guillorme appeared on his way to hitting a triple in Wednesday afternoon's game against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Dylan Carlson had other ideas.

The fly ball initially sailed over Carlson's head, but the center fielder quickly recovered and fired a missile to third base. It took a perfect throw, clocked at a ridiculous 97.2 mph per MLB's Twitter page, to tag out Guillorme.

Carlson's superb defensive play quelled any attempted rally by the Mets, who trail 9-5 in the seventh inning. They started the series with two road runs at Busch Stadium, including a dramatic ninth-inning comeback on Monday evening.

Carlson has also had a good day at the plate, securing his own triple during a five-run fourth inning. The 23-year-old is 2-for-3 with two RBI and a walk.

Perhaps this performance will help the former top prospect break out of an April funk that saw him enter Wednesday batting .194/.246/.242 with no home runs in 15 games.
