Paris Saint-Germaine is set to boast a star-studded roster in 2021.
On Thursday, PSG’s returning centerpiece Kylian Mbappe welcomed the newest superstar addition to the team: Lionel Messi. The 22-year-old Frenchman took to Twitter to celebrate the addition of his new teammate earlier today.
“Welcome to Paris, Leo,” he wrote along with some pictures of the two together at team facilities.

After a shocking departure from his longtime Barcelona club last week, PSG quickly became the frontrunner to sign Messi. Just a few days later, the all-time great signed a two-year contract with the French club reportedly worth $41 million per year, plus a third-year option.
In addition to teaming up with Mbappe this season, Messi will also rejoin his former Barcelona teammate, Neymar, on the PSG roster.
Through the 2020-21 season, Messi, Mbappe and Neymar combined for a staggering 66 goals and 21 assists for their respective clubs. Messi is the reigning Ballon d’Or champion, claiming his all-time record sixth trophy back in 2019.
At 22 years old, Mbappe has 37 more goals than Messi did at the same age, per Forbes.
Through the 2020-21 season, PSG finished second in French League 1 with a 26-8-4 record. With the addition of one of the greatest soccer players in history, the club should be in for any improved season in 2021.
