Former Red Sox star David Ortiz is currently recovering after being shot in the back at an outdoor restaurant in his home country of the Dominican Republic. Police have now reportedly made an arrest in the case.
Ortiz, in a video circulating on social media, is shown sitting at a table when an assailant hops off a motorcycle, pulls out a gun and shoots him – seemingly unprompted.
According to Dominican journalist Dionisio Soldevila, a man named Eddy Feliz Garcia has been arrested in connection with the crime. Videos on social media reportedly show Garcia getting beat up by patrons in the establishment after the shooting.
It’s unclear if Garcia is the only person who has been arrested.
Dominican police have arrested this man in connection with the shooting of David Ortiz, according to @dSoldevila. Looks as though the videos previously circulating of a man getting kicked in the face and beaten down may indeed have been connected to the Ortiz case. https://t.co/YOjH8S8P8U

Ortiz was rushed to the hospital and underwent surgery for his injuries. He reportedly suffered liver damage and had parts of his intestines and gallbladder removed.
However, he is expected to survive the attack and recover.
Ortiz is a 10-time All-Star who won three World Series championships with the Boston Red Sox. He’s also a native of the Dominican Republic.
