The Vikings were so close to defeating the Packers at Lambeau Field, but Daniel Carlson's missed field goal in overtime cost them the game. Instead of taking an early division lead over their rivals, Minnesota was forced to make an interesting change to their roster.
In an effort to improver their production on special teams, the Vikings made the switch to Dan Bailey at kicker. Although he hasn't played one snap this season, the veteran had tons of success with the Cowboys.
Besides, Mike Zimmer thought it was an easy decision.
Seriously, when asked about releasing Carlson, the Vikings' head coach said "Did you see the game?"
Even though the Vikings spent a fifth-round selection on Carlson, they couldn't afford costly mistakes in crucial showdowns. If Minnesota truly wants to make the Super Bowl, fixing their kicking game will be imperative.
With a favorable matchup coming up this weekend against the Bills, the Vikings will have their first chance to see if they made the correct choice at kicker.
