Minnesota Twins prospect Ryan Costello was reportedly found dead in his hotel room in Auckland, New Zealand, his team announced Monday morning. Costello had just arrived in the country about a week ago to play for the Auckland Tuatara.

The Tuatara report that preliminary indications suggest he died of "natural causes." The team is set to hold a press conference about the situation on Tuesday.

Costello was just 23 years old. He was set to play third base for the Tuatara this season.

"The Tuatara would like to express their deepest condolences to Ryan’s family back home in the United States and to the whole Minnesota Twins organisation."

Costello played college baseball at Central Connecticut State and was selected in the 31st round of the 2017 MLB Draft by the Seattle Mariners. He was traded to the Twins in 2018 for pitcher Zach Duke. The Twins also announced the news on social media about an hour ago:

Our thoughts and prayers are with Costello's family and friends.
