MLB Announces Punishment For Dodgers OF Yasiel Puig

The Dodgers and Giants in a bench-clearing brawl.

You knew Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig was going to be suspended for his role in Tuesday's bench-clearing brawl against the San Francisco Giants. It was just a matter of how long.

Now we know the answer. Puig has been suspended for two games, MLB announced today. He has also been hit with an undisclosed fine.

Puig's official infraction is "fighting and inciting a bench-clearing incident."

With the Dodgers down 1-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning on Tuesday, Puig fouled off a pitch. He was clearly frustrated and said something out loud while flipping his bat in the air. Giants catcher Nick Hundley said something back to Puig, and the two began jawing at each other. Puig eventually shoved Hundley, which ignited the brouhaha. Hundley wound up being fined but not suspended. Overall, it was a pretty dumb way for a fight to happen.

Puig has said he will appeal the suspension. The Dodgers are off today and will travel to Seattle to take on the Mariners this weekend.
