CBS Sports released a ranking of the top 10 head coaches in the NFL heading into the 2020 season. The list isn't going over very well.
There aren't any real surprises at the top of the list, as New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick comes in at No. 1. He's followed by Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, who's coming off a Super Bowl win, and Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh. There's not too much to argue with there.
Rounding out the top five are New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton and San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan. And that's where the arguments start.
Is Shanahan really deserving of the No. 5 spot? Coming in at No. 6 is Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay? Both are promising head coaches, to be sure, but ranking them above someone like Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is suspect.
NFL fans - Steelers fans, in particular - are not happy with the list.
"How can you rank 2 superbowl losers ahead of 3 superbowl winners?" one fan asked.
"Mike Tomlin not in the top 5 is absurd," a former Steelers player said.
CBS Sports' Sean Wagner, who put together the list, defended his McVay ranking.
"Sean McVay has the highest winning percentage out of every single coach on this list," he wrote on Twitter.
McVay will get a chance to prove himself worthy of the high ranking during the 2020 season. The Rams need to have a bounce-back year after disappointing in 2019.
