Urban Meyer didn’t get off to a very good start in the National Football League. The Jaguars were crushed by the Texans in Week 1.
While Meyer is loved by most of his former players, one ex-Ohio State football star was not surprised by the rough start.
Dre’Mont Jones, who played at Ohio State from 2015-18, is now with the Denver Broncos. He had some blunt comments on Meyer and his future in the NFL.
“I just know how he is,” Jones said at a Thursday press conference. “I’m not going into great detail about it. But, like, it doesn’t surprise me.”
Jones added that Meyer will need to change the way he coaches.
“Going from college to pros is always difficult no matter what the level is, whether coaching or playing,” Jones said. “Especially because a lot of his philosophies are college-based, and you can’t do that with 30-plus men or even 25-plus men who have been around the league and know what they’re doing now and are well established. You got to shake things up in how you coach.”

College football and NFL fans aren’t very surprised by the comments.
“Unfortunately this is probably the norm at most college football powerhouses. One of the reasons why a lot of college coaches have a tough time transitioning to the NFL,” one fan wrote.
“Surprised? Absolutely not. I wasn’t psyched about his hiring but I appreciated the wins. But at the same time never been a fan of the person necessarily. It’s one thing to push a kid and be hard. But this is just manipulative bull—-,” another fan added.
However, he’s just one ex-player. There are several who speak up in favor of Meyer.
“He’s one of the few ex players, out of tens of thousands, who have something bad to say about Urban Meyer. Also a guy who played good football, but didn’t nothing statistically outside of his junior year,” one fan added.
One thing is certain, though: The Urban Meyer era in Jacksonville is going to be very interesting to watch moving forward.
The Jaguars are scheduled to take on the Broncos on Sunday afternoon.
