ESPN Get Up! host Mike Greenberg made a pretty bold prediction for the 2021 NFL regular season earlier this week.
Greenberg believes that second-year Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert will win the 2021 MVP award.
“With as good as he was last season, and almost no reason to be as ready as he looked, now a full offseason and all of the additions his team has made, I would suggest Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers is a sneaky excellent pick to be this coming season’s NFL MVP,” Greenberg said on Get Up! on Thursday morning.
It’s a bold pick, but there’s certainly some logic to it. Herbert is coming off a sensational rookie season and we’ve seen several quarterbacks make an MVP-type jump in Year 2.
The NFL world is buying into Greenberg’s bold prediction. Still, some Chargers fans are hesitant to completely buy into the hype.
“When the press talks up the bolts, i just pray we have changed. So many years they were picked to win it all and got bounced in the first round. I just hope we have a good season. I’m sure all bolts fans who remember the (LaDanian Tomlinson) days feels this way. Scary,” one fan wrote.
“If the Chargers pull the trigger and get Julio Jones I can see it happening,” another fan added.
“I love Justin Herbert but my front runners for MVP are Josh Allen and Matt Stafford,” one fan wrote.
Herbert and the Chargers are set to open the 2021 regular season on Sunday, Sept. 12 against the Washington Football Team.
