The consensus best receiver in football is speaking his mind at Packers training camp. Davante Adams, who led the NFL with 18 touchdown catches (in 14 games) last year, said Wednesday what he expects for his next contract.
“I’ve earned the right to be paid the highest [of any receiver] in the league.”
Aaron Rodgers has committed to a final season in Green Bay. Adams is entering the final year of his contract. If he and the Packers are unable to figure something out, Adams will be an unrestricted free agent in 2022. NFL.com’s top-ranked receiver has emphasized that the next deal he signs will make him the highest paid at his position. Anything less, in Adams’ opinion, won’t cut it.

General manager Brian Gutekunst strategically addressed Adams’ comments at a Thursday press conference.
“I think there’s a little bit with that situation how you determine what the highest wide receiver is getting paid,” Gutekunst said.
Gutekunst did not elaborate on the factors that determine each position’s highest paid guy. He was presumably referring to details like guaranteed money, annual salary, signing bonus and more.
With Aaron Rodgers set to depart after the coming year, Adams might opt to finish his contract and find a new home in 2022. If Adams turns in another elite season, several franchises will offer the money he desires.
